Message Routing
Connection capacity means the number of outstanding host requests that can be
associated with the connection. The following choices are supported:
Currently, only common pool or per link pool can be specified. Since the number of
phone lines per MPS is up to 999, there cannot be more than 999 outstanding requests.
Consequently, unlimited capacity links are treated as links with pool size 999.
The capacity is specified by daemon's command line options -p (for per line pool) or
-P (for common pool). Only one of these options is allowed. If neither of them is
specified or if the value is equal to or greater than 999, the connections will have
unlimited capacity (the default).
Connection Capacity
Capacity Description
Unlimited Any number of outstanding host requests can be associated with the link.
Limited Each connection has a pool of slots to be granted to phone lines by the
daemon.
Common
Pool
All host links have a common pool of slots, which means that the total
number of outstanding host requests is limited.
Message Routing Options
vtcpd [{-p <#>|-P <#>}] [-m R]
Args: -p Lowercase "p" specifies limited capacity, where each connection
has a pool of slots.
-P Uppercase "P" specifies a common pool of slots for all connections.
-m R Specifies that VTCPD chooses the connection and the
corresponding slot in the pool using round robin load balancing
(instead of the default method of round robin balancing among slots
with the minimum number of outstanding requests.) If all slots are
used the request is rejected.
Examples: vtcpd -l 20:vpshost:1000 -P 20
Specifies a global pool of 20. It is possible that all 20 requests may be sent
through one connection, leaving all other links idle.
vtcpd -l 20:vpshost:1000 -p 1
Specifies one request per connection. Messages may be sent without IDs.
