On BCM50 and BCM50b main units, three RJ-45 connectors support LAN connections and one
OAM port. On the BCM50a, BCM50e, BCM50ba, and BCM50be main units, six RJ-45
connectors support LAN connections and one OAM port. The figure Ports on a BCM50e main unit
on page 156 shows the location of the LAN ports.

Port name Function
OAM port The OAM port connects an on-site management computer to the main unit. Using this
connection, you can access management tools, such as Business Element Manager,
without affecting the main LAN.
This port is not connected to the network switch built into the main unit and cannot be
connected to other network devices.
LAN port The LAN port connects the main unit to the LAN.
This port connects to the network switch built into the main unit.
