supervised referral A method of transferring a call where the Avaya MPS monitors
answer supervision signals on the line and attempts to connect the
caller’s referral lines only if the call is answered by the referral
station.
In digital systems, supervised referral is standard for some network
services. In analog systems, supervised referral requires CPD.
Contrast with blind referral.

synchronous protocol Host communication standards for transmitting and receiving
messages based on clocking.
Avaya MPS supported synchronous protocols include Burroughs
Poll/Select, SDLC Express, SNA 3270, and UTS 400.

system operator The person responsible for monitoring proper functioning of the
Avaya MPS system. The primary function of the MPS system
operator is to ensure smooth daily operation of the MPS system.
Operators may also need to perform some maintenance tasks to
ensure caller accessibility to the MPS.
Avaya MPS system operators must be familiar with
telecommunications and computer equipment, their functions and
associated terminology. In addition, they must be familiar with site-
specific telephone systems, power systems, computer systems, and
peripheral components such as terminals, modems, printers, etc.
